This type was struck in 1943 at Santiago, [[Chile]]. [[Uruguay]]an coinage was sporadic in the twentieth century and many issues are rare; this one is common. The 1917 commemorative is the last full size fifty centesimos. The subsequent issue of 1960 was copper-nickel.
