This specimen was lot 931 in Sincona sale 11 (Zürich, May 2013), where it did not sell. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''DEUTSCHLAND Nürnberg, Stadt Dukat 1648. Fast vorzüglich.'' (City of Nuremberg, ducat of 1648, choice extremely fine.)"</blockquote> This type is listed for 1635, 1637, 1640, 1648 and 1686. The date is expressed in a chronogram, a fad popular in Germany in the seventeenth century wherein the date is hidden as Roman numerals in the reverse legend.
