This specimen was lot 1418 in Künker Auction 425 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €1,200 (about US$1,699 including buyers' fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''HABSBURGISCHE ERBLANDE-ÖSTERREICH · RÖMISCH-DEUTSCHES REICH, Joseph II., 1765-1790. Sovrano 1788 M, Mailand. GOLD. Sehr schön-vorzüglich.'' ([[Austria|Holy Roman Empire]], Joseph II, 1765-90, gold soverain of 1788, [[Italy, Milan|Milan]] mint. Very fine to extremely fine.)"</blockquote> This type is recorded for the Duchy of Milan 1786-90. Similar coins with other mintmarks (Brussels, Vienna, etc.) are listed under the Austrian Netherlands. The duchy of Milan was Spanish until 1714, when it passed to the [[Austria]]ns, who lost it to Revolutionary [[France]] in 1797. After the fall of Napoleon in 1815, it returned to Hapsburg rule until the unification of Italy in 1859-60.
