This specimen was lot 3471 in Künker sale 264 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €1,400 (about US$1,809 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''Maria Theresia, 1740-1780. Doppia 1778, Mailand. GOLD. Min. Schrötlingsfehler am Rand, sehr schön.'' (duchy of Milan, Maria Theresia, 1740-80, doppia of 1778, Milan mint. Minor edge split, very fine.)"</blockquote> The ''doppia'' was originally twice the weight of the ducat but was considerably lighter by the time the Austrians issued this type 1778-80. The Austrians held Milan 1714-97 and 1815-59.
