This specimen was lot 4812 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €360 (about US$465 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''MAINZ, ERZBISTUM, Emerich Joseph von Breitbach-Bürresheim, 1763-1774. Konv.-Taler 1770, DF, Mainz. Sehr seltener Jahrgang. Sehr schön. Erworben 1953 von der Münzenhandlung Richard Götze (RIGÖ), Berlin.'' (archbishopric of [[German States, Mainz|Mainz]], Emerich Joseph von Breitbach-Bürresheim, 1763-74, convention thaler of 1770, Mainz mint. Very rare date, very fine.)"</blockquote> The archbishops of Mainz were prolific issuers of gold coins in the late middle ages but output dropped in the late fifteenth century, never to recover. This thaler of 1770-71 is scarce but not rare. A pfennig was the only other coin struck in Mainz in 1770.
