This specimen was lot 125 in Sincona sale 88 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 600 CHF (about US$793 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"[[Iran|IRAN]], Zand Dynasty, Karim Khan, 1166-1193 AH (1753-1779). 1/2 Mohur Ashrafi 1191 AH (1777), Basra Mint. ''Äusserst seltene Münzstätte;'' Extremely rare mint. NGC MS62. Purchased from A. Shams, Frankfurt, in 1987."</blockquote> Karim Khan was the founder and the only effective ruler of the Zands. The Zands besieged and occupied Basra in Iraq during 1775-79 and briefly operated a mint there. This rare type is listed for AH 1190 only.
