This specimen was struck in London for the kingdom of [[Iceland]] in 1940. The previous issues of this type were struck in Copenhagen but in 1940, the Nazis invaded and occupied [[Denmark]]. The kingdom was separated from Denmark in 1918 and coinage commenced with an issue of ten and twenty-five aurar in 1922. One and two kronur were added in 1925 and one, two and five aurar in 1926. The kingdom ended when Iceland declared herself a republic in 1944. This date is common but, like many zinc coins, is heavily corroded.
