This specimen was lot 1078 in Jean Elsen sale 161 (Brussels, March 2025), where it sold for €200 (about US$261 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''ALLEMAGNE, HANOVRE, Georg V (1851-1866), AR double Taler (3 1/2 Gulden), 1855 B.'' ([[Germany]], [[German States, Hannover|kingdom of Hannover]], George V, 1851-66, silver double thaler of 1855. Very Fine - Extremely Fine.)"</blockquote> This type of 1854-55 is common as double thalers go but can still be expensive. The kingdom of Hannover was the old duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg prior to the Napoleonic invasions. It was separated from the British crown in 1837 and absorbed by Prussia in 1866.
