This specimen was lot 561 in Sincona sale 46 (Zürich, May 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''ITALY, Genova, Dogi Biennali, 1528-1797. 1/2 Doppia 1629. Gutes sehr schön. Unregelmässiger Schrötling.'' (republic of Genoa, biennial doges, 1528-1797, half doppia of 1629. Good very fine, Irregular flan.)"</blockquote> The ''doppia'' was originally a double ''scudo d'oro'' so having a half ''doppia'' wouldn't seem to make much sense but there it is. Friedberg lists this type for 1557-1638 and, tho scarce, is the most available Genoese gold coin of the period. One-eighth thru five doppia are also recorded.
