This specimen was lot 901 in Jean Elsen sale 112 (Brussels, March 2012) where it sold for €4,000 (about US$6,250 including buyer's fee). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''VLAANDEREN, Graafschap, Brugge in opstand tegen Filips II (1583-1584), AV gouden leeuw (lion d'or), z.j. Droit : Zittende leeuw nue l. onder een gotisch baldakijn tussen twee gotische letters B-B. Revers : Leeuwenschild op een gebladerd kruis. Uit onze veiling 78, 20 maart 2004, 1201. Zeer Zeldzaam. Zeer Fraai à Prachtig.''" (County of Flanders, in rebellion against Philip II (1583-84), golden lion d'or, without date. Obverse: seated lion to left between two Gothic letters "B-B"; reverse: lion on arms over a floriate cross. From our sale 78, March 2004, lot 1201. Very rare, very fine to extremely fine.)</blockquote> This coin was issued while the city of Antwerp was besieged by the Spanish general Alexander Farnese.
