This specimen was lot 2283 in Sincona sale 51 (Zürich, October 2018), where it sold for 1,200 CHF (about US$1,448 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''500 Yuan 2008. Panda. Polierte Platte. FDC. In Originalverschweissung.'' (China, five hundred yuan of 2008, panda. Choice Proof, In original plastic holder.)"</blockquote> The Chinese government has, since the mid 1980's, produced a mind boggling array of bullion related collectibles. The gold panda is one of the most popular. Prior to 2001, the one ounce panda was denominated 100 yuan.

''Specification:'' 31.10 g, 0.999 fine gold, 1.000 troy oz AGW, 32 mm diameter; this specimen 31.50 g.
