This specimen was lot 5137 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €360 (about US$465 including buyer's fees). The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, <blockquote>"''BRAUNSCHWEIG-LÜNEBURG-CELLE, FÜRSTENTUM, Christian Ludwig, 1648-1665. Reichstaler 1657, Zellerfeld. Seltener Jahrgang. Kl. Randfehler, kl. Schrötlingsriß, fast vorzüglich.'' (duchy of [[German States, Brunswick-Luneburg|Brunswick-Luneburg-Celle]], Christian Louis, 1648-65, thaler of 1657, Zellerfeld mint. Rare date, minor edge defects, small planchet crack, about extremely fine. Davenport shows the wrong picture for the reverse.)"</blockquote> This "wild man" thaler is listed for 1654-55, 1658-62 and 1665. However, despite the many years of production, it is on the expensive side. Christian Ludwig was duke in Calenberg 1641-48 and in Celle 1648-65. His younger brother Georg Wilhelm was duke in Calenberg 1648-65 and in Celle 1665-1705.
