Zurich (1580) sechser
This specimen was lot 4627 in Sincona sale 95 (Zürich, October 2024), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Zürich, Stadt und Kanton, Sechser o. J. (1580), Zürich. Wappenschild in Dreipass. Rv. Einköpfiger, nach links blickender Adler. Umschrift antiqua. Selten. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. Kleines Zainende, sonst überdurchschnittliche Erhaltung. Ein interessantes Detail bei dem Stück ist, dass es auf einen Schilling mit gotischer Umschrift geprägt wurde. Auf Grund des linken Flügel des Adlers beim überprägten Stück könnte es sich um den Typ Hürlimann 1116 handeln. Exemplar der Auktion SINCONA 20, Zürich, Oktober 2014, Los 3580. (Switzerland, canton of Zürich, undated sechser, circa 1580, Zürich mint. Obverse: arms in trilobe; reverse: single headed eagle facing left, Antiqua lettering. Rare, Very Fine-Extremely Fine, Minor edge clip, otherwise much better condition than average. An interesting detail about the piece is that it was minted on a shilling with Gothic letters. From to the left wing of the eagle on the undertype, it could be the Hürlimann 1116 type.)"
We don't know the face value of this coin but we guess from the weight that it was half a schilling. Some undated sechsers (KM B12) are listed without photos in the SCWC; we don't know if they are the same as this.
