Zimbabwe 1997 10 cents
This specimen was lot 74923 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $80. The catalog description[1] noted, "ZIMBABWE. 10 Cents, 1997. PCGS SPECIMEN-66. An enchanting piece with flashy details and sharp designs. From the Kings Norton Mint Collection." This type was introduced in 1980 with the inauguration of the nation of Zimbabwe from the ruins of the white supremacist regime of Rhodesia. It was struck intermittently until 1999. It was converted to nickel-plated steel for 2001-03. Inflation has destroyed its usefulness as Robert Mugabe overstayed his welcome.
