Yemen SA30-1021r.jpg

The Qu'aiti State of the Hadhramaut is an area in the eastern part of present-day Yemen. The coinage is similar to that of the Kathiri State of Seiyun & Tarim, from which the Qu'aiti State of Hadhramaut separated in about 1925, claiming independence from the Kathiri sultan. It later formed part of the Protectorate of South Arabia, which was eventually annexed by South Arabia, and became part of the Peoples Democratic Republic of Yemen. This specimen was lot 1021 in Stephen Album sale 30 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2018), where it sold for $998.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "QU'AITI STATE OF HADHRAMAUT: Saleh 'Ubayd b. Abdat, 1920-1939, AR 45 khumsi, al-Ghurfa, AH1344, fabulous condition, NGC graded MS65."

Recorded mintage: unknown.
