This specimen was lot 33950 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $84. The catalog description[1] noted, "Arab Republic Proof 2-1/2 Riyals 1975 PR61 Cameo PCGS. A stunning proof example with a mintage of just 5,000 pieces." This NCLT promoted oil exploration in the Yemen, an endeavor which failed, leaving Yemen one of the poorest countries in the Middle East.
Recorded mintage: 205,000 plus 5,000 proofs.
Specification: 9 g, 0.925 fine silver, .265 troy oz ASW.
