This specimen was lot 75791 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for $145. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Venice. 40 Soldi, ND (1577-78)-FB. Venice Mint. Sebastiano Venier. PCGS VF-30." This coin was issued a few years after the battle of Lepanto, the Venetian navy's last act as a major sea power. Forty soldi was two lire or a quarter scudo. Christian martyr St. Justina appears on the reverse. It was struck for various doges until 1600.
