This specimen was lot 1530 in Stack's "Vermuele, Ward & Mexico Maxico" sale (New York, January 2010), where it sold for $460. The catalog description[1] noted, "VENEZUELA. Republic. 2 Reales, 1858 A. Paris. Liberty heads with coiled hair l. Rv. Arms of Republic. Rare one-year type. Strong Fine." Most of the nineteenth century coinage of Venezuela is scarce to rare and this piece is no exception. Despite the reported mintage, it is virtually a pattern altho this specimen obviously circulated extensively.
