Vaud 1823 10 batzen
This specimen was lot 5044 in Goldberg sale 74 (Los Angeles, June 2013), where it sold for $483 including buyer's fees. The catalog description[1] noted, "Switzerland - Vaud. 10 Batzen, 1823. Standing knight with shield. Reflective surfaces with light gray tone. NGC graded MS-63." The second specimen was lot 23641 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Las Vegas, August 2020), where it sold for $480. The catalog description[2] noted, "SWITZERLAND. Vaud. 10 Batzen, 1823. PCGS MS-65. A lovely, boldly struck coin with sharp device detail and just a hint of toning. Some light adjustment marks can be detected on both sides." This ten batzen was issued from the Swiss canton of Vaud 1823 only. Forty batzen made a thaler. Vaudois issues ended in 1831 except for a rare franc emitted 1845. Cantonal issues were terminated by the confederation of 1848.
