This type was struck in 1943-51 at Santiago, Chile, for Uruguay. It is the third date of the type, replacing a copper-nickel type issued 1901-36. Uruguayan coinage was sporadic in the early twentieth century and many issues are rare; this one is common. There is a similar five centésimos (KM 21a).
Recorded mintage: 2,500,000.
