Sincona sale 102, lot 5525

This specimen was lot 5525 in Sincona Auction 102 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 1,600 CHF (about US$2,412 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ. Uri, Schwyz und Nidwalden. Dicken (Testone) o. J. (1544-1605), Altdorf. Selten. Gutes sehr schön. Exemplar der Auktion SINCONA 23, Zürich, Mai 2015, Los 3756. (Switzerland, cantons of Uri, Schwyz and Nidwalden, undated dicken or testone, circa 1544-1605, Altdorf mint. Rare, Good Very Fine.)"

This dicken or teston doesn't appear in Numista. The obverse legend, "SVIT * VNDERVA + VRANIE ·", translates as, "Schwyz, Unterwalden and Uri", while St. Martin appears on the reverse. Another dicken from the same period shows the arms of the three cantons combined into one shield.
