United States 2014-W 5 dollars
This specimen was lot 6615 in CNG sale Triton XXVII (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $220.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "2014-W $5 – Gold 1/10 Oz Bullion. PCGS PR69DCAM. Reagan Legacy Series. PCGS ticket signed by Michael Reagan." In 1986, the mint inaugurated the Bullion Coinage Program in gold and silver to compete with foreign coins (such as the krugerrand) and privately issued medallions. While sales have died down from the initial enthusiasm, they have been steady sellers and the type, issued in one, half, quarter and tenth ounce sizes, is still in production. The uncirculated strikes do not bear the "W" mintmark.
Recorded mintage: 22,725 proofs (mintmark "W") plus 545,000 regular strikes.
Specification: 3.39 g, 0.917 fine gold, 16.50 mm diameter, reeded edge.
