The mint ceased production of silver dollars in 1935. It was proposed to revive the Peace dollar in 1964, and several hundred thousand were made, but none were released. In 1971, a new design was released, featuring the recently deceased president Eisenhower. The Philadephia and Denver mints struck these in copper-nickel for circulation while the San Francisco mint struck proofs and "uncirculated" in billon (40% silver). There was little demand for these outside of casinos and production was terminated in 1978.
