The Washington quarter superseded the Standing Liberty quarter in 1932 and is still in production, nearly ninety years later. The type was silver for 1932-64. This specimen was lot 2341 in Stack's Bowers March 2021 Auction, Session 2, U.S. Coins Part 2, where it sold for $960. The lot description noted, "1957 Washington Quarter. MS-67+ (PCGS). This charming example is dressed in dominant mauve-gray patina, the obverse with intermingled highlights of golden-apricot and salmon-pink. For the reverse, direct lighting calls forth warm undertones of blue-gray and champagne-gold. A frosty and essentially pristine Superb Gem with outstanding eye appeal. From the Washington Rainbows Collection, the #1 PCGS Registry Set of Silver Washington Quarters, 1932-1964. PCGS Population: 24; 0 finer." This is a common date altho there is a rare variety where a proof die was used to strike the reverse.
