This issue is common for the type. This "with motto" variety was struck 1866-91. Arrows were added to the date 1873-74 to indicate a slight change to the weight, from 12.44 g to 12.5 g. The Carson City mint struck half dollars 1870-78, of which only the 1875-77 issues can be considered affordable.

Recorded mintage: 1,420,000.

Specification: 12.5 g, 0.900 fine silver, .361 troy oz ASW, reeded edge, designed by Christian Gobrecht.
