Sincona sale 101, lot 3660

This specimen was lot 3660 in Sincona Auction 101 (Zürich, October 2025), where it sold for 750 CHF (about US$1,131 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"USA, 50 Cents 1830, Philadelphia. Capped bust type. Small 0. NGC MS62. Hübsche Patina, Attractively toned.)"

In addition to the "small 0" shown here, we note a "large 0", "small letters" and "large letters" varieties for this date and other, less significant, varieties exist. This is a common date and substantial quantities were saved, being used as bank reserves when silver dollars were not available.

Recorded mintage: 4,764,800.

Specification: 13.48 g, 0.892 fine silver, .386 troy oz ASW, 32.5 mm diameter, lettered edge, designed by John Reich, this specimen 13.43 g.
