Stephen Album sale 47, lot 1576

This specimen was lot 1576 in Stephen Album sale 47 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $7,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "UNITED STATES: AV 5 dollars, 1810, Capped Bust type gold 'half eagle', large date, large 5, cleaned, PCGS graded AU details. From 1807 to 1812, a new design, titled the "Draped Bust" or "Capped Bust", was produced by John Reich. The "Draped Bust" design featured a round-capped Liberty facing left on the obverse and a modified eagle on the reverse."

Recorded mintage: 100,287 all varieties.

Specification: 8.75 g, 0.917 fine gold, 25 mm diameter.
