USA Barber Quarter Dollars (1892-1916)
Barber Quarter Dollars were minted from 1892 to 1916, inclusive. Their name comes from the coin's designer, Charles E. Barber, who was hired as the Assistant Engraver at the Philadelphia Mint in 1869. He succeeded his father, William Barber, as the Chief Engraver in early 1880 and served in that position until his death in 1917. They replaced the old Seated Liberty design and were followed by the Standing Liberty design.
Barber Quarter Dollars were minted at Philadelphia, New Orleans, San Francisco, and Denver. None were ever made at the Carson City Mint, which operated in 1892 and 1893.
