This specimen was lot 7368 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2017), where it sold for $705. The catalog description[1] noted, "TUVALU. 50 Dollars, 1981. NGC PROOF-69 ULTRA CAMEO. Royal wedding commemorative. Flashing brilliant fields free of any signs of handling or contact, all the more impressive as the design takes up very little of the surface." This type was accompanied by a silver five dollars (KM 12). Tuvalu formerly the Ellice part of the Gilbert and Ellice Islands.
Recorded mintage: 5,000 proofs.
Specification: 15.98 g, 0.917 fine gold (struck to the standard of a double sovereign).
