Steve Album sale 30, lot 1352
Tuscany SA30-1352r.jpg

This specimen was lot 1352 in Stephen Album sale 30 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2018), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "TUSCANY: Leopoldo II, 1st reign, 1824-1848, AR fiorino, 1840, well struck and lustrous, light tone, EF-AU." This type is listed for 1826-30, 1840-42. These obscure little Italian states coins don't catalog for much but are very difficult to find. This specimen brought triple the catalog value. The fiorino, originally a gold coin equal to a ducat, was in the nineteenth century one quarter of a francescone, the Tuscan equivalent of a piastra.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 6.87 g, .916 fine silver.

Catalog reference: Cr-72, Pagani-130, MIR-452/4, Gigante-33, CNI-68.
