Turkey 2009 50 kurush

from the Mountain Groan Collection

This specimen was plucked from circulation on a recent trip to Turkey. It bears the stern visage of Kemal Ataturk, founder of the Republic. Many examples passed thru the author's hands yet most were already heavily worn, unusual for a coin only a year old. At the time, no other dates beside 2009 were found. It is listed in the SCWC for 2009-2013 and in Numista for 2009-2022.

Recorded mintage: 162,840,100.

Specification: 6.8 g, bimetallic, copper-nickel center in a brass ring, 23.85 mm diameter.
