This specimen was lot 72841 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2020), where it sold for $240. The catalog description[1] noted, "TURKEY. 5 Kurush, 1937. NGC MS-64. Unique toning creates an almost paint brush like effect, with a coppery-red that fades to soft blues creating great eye appeal. No example graded finer at NGC." This type was struck 1935-43. Turkey, equally distrustful of Germany and Russia, stayed neutral during World War Two. She declared war on Germany at the very end so as to be eligible to join the United Nations.
