This type was struck in AH 1360-61 in the name of Ahmad Pasha Bey, a French puppet; the French in turn being puppets of the Nazi occupiers. The French left in 1956 and in 1957 a republic was established, ousting the discredited monarchy. Starting in AH 1308/1891 AD, all coins began showing both Arabic and French legends, and the denominations were decimalized. All minting during the French protectorate period occurred in Paris (note the privy mark).
Recorded mintage: 10,000,000.
Specification: zinc, holed.
Catalog reference: KM 267.
