This specimen was lot 2778 in Goldberg sale 100 (Los Angeles, September 2017), where it sold for $105.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "Tunisia. Piastre, AH1246 (1831). Lightly toned and lustrous. NGC graded AU-58." This type was struck AH 1240-1255 in the name of Mahmud II in Constantinople. The lucky bidder of this lot obtained a bargain, as this coin is rare in choice condition. AH 1246 ran from June 1830 to June 1831. Sixteen kharub made a piastre or riyal, the largest silver coin issued in Tunisia in the early nineteenth century.
