This specimen was lot 10 in Sincona sale 31 (Zürich, October 2016), where it sold for 3,600 CHF (about US$4,273 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "OTTOMAN TUNIS | Ahmed I (1012-1026ah/1603-1617ce) sultani 1012ah (1603ce) AU RR weak vf. Determining the exact date, which has been very crudely struck on this coin, is based on an educated guess." Friedberg lists no gold coins for Tunisia prior to the Turkish decimal reform of 1839. The SCWC mentions a sultani (KM 7, 3.5 g) for this ruler but no fractions. It is doubtless rare.
