Tunisia 2007 10 dinars
This specimen was lot 376 in Sincona sale 31 (Zürich, October 2016), where it sold for 110 CHF (about US$131 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "REPUBLIC OF TUNISIA, 10 dinars 2007ce/1428ah AR xf+ ex Pf." This type, struck with French and Arabic legends (shown here), honored the twentieth anniversary of the revolution which overthrew the senile Habib Bourgiba in 1987 and the introduction of satellite television. It is unlikely to have circulated beyond the president's circle of cronies and supporters. Zine Ben Ali, Bourgiba's successor, was himself overthrown in 2011.
Recorded mintage: 810 proofs.
Specification: 38 g, 0.900 fine silver, 1.092 troy oz ASW, this specimen 37.84 g.
