Tunisia SB118-25058r.jpg

This specimen was lot 25058 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2018), where it sold for $456. The catalog description[1] noted, "TUNISIA. 2 Francs, AH 1341 (1922-A). NGC MS-63. RARE low mintage issue, only 303 pieces struck. Sharply struck with light toning and quite attractive." This type was struck 1922-27 in the name of Muhammad al-Habib Bey, a French puppet. All dates are rare. The French left in 1956 and in 1957 a republic was established, ousting the discredited monarchy. Also in the 1920's, aluminum bronze two francs (KM 248) were struck without the bey's name; these are common by comparison.

Recorded mintage: 303.

Specification: 10 g, 0.835 fine silver, .266 troy oz ASW, 27 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-251.
