This specimen was lot 229 in Sincona sale 31 (Zürich, October 2016), where it sold for 350 CHF (about US$416 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "FRENCH PROTECTORATE | Reign of Muhammed al-Nasr Bey (1324-1340ah/1906-1922ce) 50 centimes 1918ce/1337ah AR R Fdc." This type was struck 1907-21 in the name of Muhammad al-Nasir Bey, a French puppet. Some dates are readily available but this one is rare. The French left in 1956 and in 1957 a republic was established, ousting the discredited monarchy.
