Tunisia 1897-A 20 francs
This specimen was lot 3224 in Sincona sale 87 (Zürich, October 2023), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"TUNESIEN, Unter Frankreich. Ali Bey, 1299-1320 AH (1882-1902). 20 Francs 1315 AH (1897 AD), Paris. Sehr schön. Kleine Randfehler. (Tunisia, French protectorate, Ali Bey, 1882-1902, twenty francs of AH 1315/1897, Paris mint. Very fine, Minor edge flaws.)"
This type was struck 1891-1902 but is scarce despite the substantial mintage; only the 1892 is common. Gold twenty francs were struck to the standard of the Franc Germinal until 1928, long after metropolitan France had abandoned it.
