Sincona sale 89, lot 596

This specimen was lot 596 in Sincona sale 89 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 2,200 CHF (about US$2,907 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Trier, Erzbistum, Werner von Falkenstein, 1388-1418. Goldgulden o. J. (1400-1401), Koblenz. 3.45 g. Noss 247 a. Felke 644. Fr-3417. Vorzüglich. Prüfspur am Rand. Exemplar der Auktion Schweizerischer Bankverein 44, Basel, Januar 1998, Los 653. (Germany, archbishopric of Trier, Werner von Falkenstein, 1388-1418, undated goldgulden, circa 1400-01, Koblenz mint. Extremely fine, Test mark on edge.)"

Trier and the other archbishoprics were significant producers of gold in the Middle Ages.
