Transylvania 1660-CB thaler Dav-4765
This specimen was lot 31890 in Heritage sale 3107 (Chicago, May 2023), where it sold for $5,520. The catalog description[1] noted, "Transylvania: Achatius Barcsai Taler 1660-CB XF45 NGC. A scarce type issued during the rule of Turkish vassal Achatius Barcsai. Though the center strikes are a touch soft, the legends on both sides are eminently legible. This specimen is in a remarkable state of preservation as luster is still visible underneath the steel-gray surfaces. This is a unique opportunity for the crown-sized collector to add an attractive, problem-free Transylvanian Taler to their cabinet." SCWC lists four thalers for 1660-CB:
- KM 330.1/Dav-4762 ("Moon face to left"/Central legend in small cartouche),
- KM 330.2/Dav-4763 ("Moon face to right"/Central legend in circle),
- KM 330.3/Dav-4764 ("Moon face to left"/"PERI*MVS" on reverse),
- KM 330.4/Dav-4765 ("Moon face to right"/"PERIMVS" on reverse).
