Transylvania 1630-CV ducat Fr-371
This specimen was lot 1095 in CNG Triton XXIX (New York, January 2026), where it sold for $61,250. The catalog description[1] noted, "TRANSYLVANIA, Principality. Katalin Brandenburgi. 1629-1630. AV Dukát. Kolozsvár (Klausenburg / Cluj-Napoca) mint. Dated 1630 CV. Facing bust wearing elaborate lace collar / Radiant Madonna and Child on clouds set on crescent; below, coat-of arms. In NGC encapsulation 8414605-001, graded AU 55. Rare. Top Pop." Katharina of Brandenburg (1602-49) was the widow of Gabriel Bethlen who attempted to hold onto power after the death of her husband. Failing in this, she returned to Germany and remarried in 1633. This rare ducat is from her brief reign. The similar Fr-370 has an arms reverse.
