This specimen was lot 2090 in Sincona sale 66 (Zürich, October 2020), where it sold for 280,000 CHF (about US$368,620 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SIEGENBURGEN, Fürstentum, Stephan Bocskai, 1604-1606. 4 Dukaten 1606, Hermannstadt (Nagyszeben). Goldabschlag vom 6 Groschen-Stempel. °STEPHANVS°BOCH°D°G° - PRINCEPS°HV° TR°P°ET°S °C°, geharnischtes Brustbild mit geschultertem Zepter nach rechts. Rv. GROS°ARGENT°SE° REG°HV°ET°TRA16°06, Viergeteiltes ungarisch-siebenbürgisches Wappen, in der Mitte Bocskai-Wappen mit dem Drachen, über dem Wappen Wertzahl VI. Von grösster Seltenheit. Vermutlich das einzige bekannte Exemplar im Handel. Vorzüglich. Prachtexemplar. (principality of Transylvania, Stephan Bocskai, 1604-1606, quadruple ducat of 1606, Hermannstadt mint, struck using six groschen dies. Obverse: armored half-length bust right with scepter; reverse: quartered arms of Hungary and Transylvania with the escutcheon of Bocskai in the center, value above. Of the highest rarity. Probably the only known specimen on the market, Extremely fine, Cabinet piece.)"
The princes of Transylvania were sandwiched between the Ottoman Empire to the south and the Hapsburg dominions to the west and attempted to maintain independence from both. The Hapsburgs reconquered Hungary from the Turks in the 1680's and ended Transylvanian autonomy.
