Künker sale 264, lot 3455

This specimen was lot 3455 in Künker sale 264 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €850 (about US$1,098 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Karl VI. 1711-1740. 1/4 Dukat o. J. Siebenbürgen. GOLD. R Vorzüglich . (Austria, Charles VI, 1711-40, undated quarter ducat from Transylvania. Scarce, extremely fine.)"

This, along with Fr-522, is the only quarter ducat issued in Transylvania for Karl VI. It is priced lower than Fr-522; we don't know whether that is because it is more common or because of its conventional design.

Reported Mintage: unknown.

Specification: 0.875 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 0.89 g.

Catalog reference: Fr-521; Herinek 257, KM 547.
