This specimen was lot 33978 in Heritage sale 3114 (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $1,080. The lot description[1] noted, "Transnistria: Moldovan Republic gold Proof "Tiraspol Arms" 3 Rublya 2007 PR69 Deep Cameo PCGS. A surprisingly scarce modern product of this obscure Moldovan republic and the only currently submitted to PCGS on the verge of perfection." Wikipedia comments,
"Transnistria or Pridnestrovie, officially known as the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR), is an internationally unrecognized state, recognized as part of Moldova. Transnistria controls most of the narrow strip of land between the Dniester river and the Moldova–Ukraine border, as well as some land on the other side of the river's bank. Its capital and largest city is Tiraspol. Transnistria has been recognised only by two other unrecognised or partially recognised breakaway states: Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Transnistria, along with Abkhazia and South Ossetia, is a post-Soviet "frozen conflict" zone."
The region seems to be about equally divided between Romanians, Ukrainians and Russians. This denomination was used 2007-09 to strike and sell a number of NCLT's.
