This specimen was lot 2801 in Stephen Album sale 50 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[1] noted, "DANISH INDIA: TRANQUEBAR: Frederick VI, 1808-1839, AE 4 kas, 1831, mint error: retrograde S in KAS, very rare date for this error, VF, RRR, ex Solar Collection." The Danish fort at Tranquebar was sold to the British in 1845. When the one and two cash were reduced in weight early in the eighteenth century, the four and ten cash were added to supplement the denominations. This subtype, with the reversed "S", is listed for 1817 and 1831. The regular issue, KM 159.1, was struck 1825 and 1830-39. This specimen realized one-third of the catalog value.
