This specimen was lot 816 in Stephen Album sale 30 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2018), where it sold for $41.13. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRENCH INDOCHINA: TONKIN: 1/600 piastre, Paris, 1905, French & Chinese inscriptions, NGC graded MS64." This odd coin is the only issue listed for this locality. It is not explained why this was struck, how it fits with the existing decimal issues of the colony, where it was made (presumably Paris, from the privy marks) and why so many were struck.
Recorded mintage: 60,000,000.
Specification: 2.1 g, zinc, 25 mm diameter.
Catalog reference: KM-1.
