This specimen was lot 23329 in Stack's Bowers ANA Auction (Denver, CO, August 2017), where it sold for $763.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "TONGA. 1/2 Koula, 1962. NGC MS-66. From the Vincent Alones Collection." Coinage commenced in 1962 and was converted to decimal coinage in 1967. This type was accompanied by a gold one koula and a quarter koula. One koula = 16 pounds. Salote Tupou III was queen of Tonga from 1918 until her death in 1965.

Recorded mintage: 3,000 proofs + unknown number of circulation strikes.

Specification: 16.25 g, 0.917 fine gold.
