This specimen was lot 18009 in Heritage auction 354 (the Horwedel sale, Long Beach, CA, September 2004), where it sold for $4,887.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Placentia, CA - $5 1902 Date Back Fr-594 The Placentia NB Ch. # (P)10092. Just seven notes are recorded from this Orange County locale, with this institution the only issuer. The Horwedel collection contains two examples, the first this Date Back, which is the only example of its type reported to date. Lowell was outbid for this pen signed Very Good-Fine specimen at the Krakover sale, but purchased it later from I. Nelson Clark. Ex Philip Krakover collection sale, lot 357."

This note was lot 2667 in Goldberg sale 62 (Beverly Hills, February 2010), where it sold for $6,037.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "1902, $10 National Bank Note. The Placentia NB, Placentia, CA. PCGS Very Fine 25. This large size-only bank was the only bank in town. It was chartered in 1911 and liquidated in 1926. This note is a lovely crisp example, with sharp pen signatures of John E. Scott as cashier and A.S. Bradford as bank president. It is pedigreed to the Colver collection and realized $2,500 in 1998; it last sold for more than $5,000 when it last appeared as part of Lowell Horwedel's collection in 2004." This specimen was subsequently lot 20375 in Heritage auction 3563 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $1,770.
