Teutonic Order 1666 thaler Dav-5859
This specimen was lot 4179 in Künker sale 406 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €2,600 (about US$3,412 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHER ORDEN IN MERGENTHEIM, Johann Caspar von Ampringen, 1664-1684. Reichstaler 1666, Nürnberg. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Teutonic Order, Grandmaster Johann Caspar von Ampringen, 1664-1684, thaler of 1666, Nuremberg mint. Very fine to extremely fine.)"
The major domains of the Teutonic Order were in Prussia, Livonia and Estonia (all lost by 1618) but they had estates in the Holy Roman Empire as well, where this thaler originated. It was struck again in 1668.
